I was rereading the scrapbook arc in Homestuck and started noticing something about the Beta kids
they all seem to represent a negative stage of the grief process
Dave’s excessive irony and dismissal attitude in so many situations shows a lack of acknowledgement toward any predicament, while Jade’s (subjective) mood swings give her an overwhelming connection to emotional outbursts. John’s prankster nature and /slight/ cowardice show that he acknowledges his situations, but feels too much pressure and attempts to get away from them. Lastly, Rose’s intelligence and awareness forces her to be realistic and cynical, slowing sinking her into a desolate state.
Therefore:
- Dave is Denial
- Jade is Anger
- John is Bargaining
- and Rose is Depression
The whole thing in itself is pretty depressing to think about, but just like the stages themselves, with hard work and some hope, one will eventually reach the final stage of Acceptance.
